Our mission is to protect open space through conservation, land acquisition, stewardship, advocacy, and education.

Our Story

The Seekonk Land Conservation Trust, Inc (SLCT) is a private, nonprofit organization established in 1967 to protect the natural resources and preserve open space in Seekonk. Today SLCT holds over 350 acres in conservation for the residents of Seekonk and future generations.

Seekonk has grown rapidly over the past decades. In many cases this growth has resulted in the loss of woodlands, farmland, wetlands, and other natural resources.

SLCT seeks to preserve these natural features and Seekonk's rural character permanently, for the enjoyment of present and future generations.

Our Goals

  • Supplement the Town's open space
  • Preserve the natural character and scenic quality of Seekonk
  • Protect habitat for wildlife
  • Maintain property values and quality of life for residents
  • Limit tax burden since open space doesn't burden Town's infrastructure needs - schools, roads, police
  • Provide opportunities for tax deductions through gifting of land

Our Programs

  • Open space preservation through fee acquistion and easement
  • Management and stewardship of properties
  • Environmental education
  • Annual materials purchase award to the Seekonk Public Library
  • Public school mini-grant program
  • Annual Nature Day event at the Martin Wildlife Refuge
  • Volunteer opportunities
