We've come to enjoy the Town of Seekonk for its close proximity to Providence, as well as its woodlands and pastures. Open
space is at a premium, however, and pressure to build on fields and forest land is a part of the phenomenon of urban sprawl.
It is a paradox that new residents are drawn to Seekonk for its openness, and take up the space they admire with new dwellings.
For more than thirty years, SLCT has worked to conserve open space in Town. Our quality of life is directly related to
many of the projects supported by the Land Trust. The Edna Martin Wildlife Refuge is certainly an example of the amenity that
green space within Seekonk offers to its residents. Sprinkled throughout Seekonk are over 350 acres protected by the Trust
that can never be developed.
SLCT does more than just land conservation. Income from it's endowment and gifts from it's supporters provide monies for
materials purchase at the Seekonk Public Library and support environmental education projects. The annual Nature Day Event
hosts trail walks and educational activities each year.
We need your help to continue our work.
