Volunteers Support Land Trust’s Earth Day 2023 Cleanup

Our Seekonk Land Trust board members and a group of nearly twenty volunteers gathered on Earth Day for this year’s property cleanup event on April 22nd. Our stewardship coordinator, Jessica Blackledge led the very successful day along with help from the Runnins River Watershed Alliance (RRWA) group who co-sponsored the cleanup at the Martin Wildlife Refuge on Fall River Avenue. In addition to cleaning the twenty-seven acre Martin Refuge, the volunteers dispersed into small groups to clean other Trust properties in town. They included properties on Chestnut, County, Bradley, and Davis Streets and Allens Avenue.

Volunteers collected over twenty-five bags of refuse. Some inventory of the trash included nip bottles, beer cans and bottles, plastic cups, straws, bottles, pots, buckets, and bags, cigarette butts, lighters, a full case of empty Heineken bottles, outdoor furniture, sports equipment, car parts, propane tanks, gutters, hoses, concrete, wire, metal pipes, shoes, wigs… and so much more!

Troop 1 Seekonk on County Street

Many thanks to the Seekonk Recycling Coordinator, Bill Kirchman for providing cleanup supplies, and the Seekonk DPW for their special roadside pickups. Special thanks also to Troop 1 Seekonk for their continued annual support and their extensive work this year on our County Street property. The RRWA deserves kudos for their great work and on getting the word out! We also thank the many neighbors of Land Trust properties who do regular maintenance throughout the year. Many hands make light work!
