Winter Woodland Walk at Osamequin Farm

Approximately 24 people including 8 children attended our Winter Woodland Walk on Saturday, February 17 at Osamequin Farm.  A fresh coating of snow greeted our group which made for a true winter scene on the farm. We gathered at the barn, introduced ourselves, and then began our exploration of the one mile loop trail through the woods.

Land Trust President, Tom Webb and board member, Liz Downing co-led the walk. Tom Webb, an emeritus professor at Brown, is a botanist. Liz is a naturalist with a background in plant and environmental science. Along the walk we found and identified many trees, shrubs, mosses, lychopods, and wetland plants. We also found some fresh tracks in the snow of coyotes, deer, squirrels, and rabbits and heard some bird song. The woods were alive with tales to tell!

New connections were made among the many people who attended, and the blanket of snow created an inviting opportunity for the children to roll around and play…. A delightful afternoon in the winter woods!

Many thanks to Osamequin Farm for co-sponsoring this event.
