The Land Trust is now seeking a part-time Stewardship Coordinator. Position responsibilities include implementing stewardship programs for our properties, documenting site visits, and working with a great group of Land Trust board members, volunteers, and partner organizations. Seekonk Scouts Honored for Conservation Efforts
Scout Troops 1 and 9 of Seekonk were honored with the Mary C. Wilson Community Conservation Award by the Seekonk Land Conservation Trust (SLCT) at its Annual Meeting on April 29, 2026. This annual award recognizes individuals or groups who have made outstanding contributions to the protection of natural resources and open space in Seekonk.

Our annual meeting on Wednesday April 29, was a big hit with over 75 attendees! Special thanks to our guest speaker, retired Brown professor Rob Emlen, and to the Seekonk Scout Troops, recipients of the Mary Wilson Conservation Award.

“Stone Walls of Seekonk” Featured Presentation at April 29th Annual Meeting
Our annual meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 6:30 PM, at the Seekonk Public Library, featuring keynote speaker, retired Brown University professor Rob Emlen. Professor Emlen studies the historical landscape of rural New England and will speak about the “Stone Walls of Seekonk.” Please join us!

SLCT Educational Mini-Grant Program is Accepting Applications!
Do you know that the Land Trust offers $500 grants to Seekonk public school teachers for environmental education programs for their students? We have provided funds for Audubon nature hikes, local water quality field studies, school recycling groups, whale watches, and in-school education materials. Please join us as we partner with Scout Troops 1 and 9 for a work day at Cushing Conservation Area. We will be spreading wood chips, clearing brush from established trails, and performing prep work for new trail segments.

Event: Tower Road Cleanup; We Need Your Help Sunday, October 5th!
We could use your help as we partner with Seekonk Scouts to remove trash at our Tower Road and Vineyard Road properties. We will also explore the property and gently widen the existing wildlife trails. Meet new friends, get some exercise, and help steward Seekonk’s natural spaces!

Eagle Scout Project Benefits Land Trust
Troop1 Seekonk scout, Deacon McShane, led a team of scouts to install a much-needed trailhead kiosk at our Edna Martin Wildlife Refuge as part of his effort to attain the rank of Eagle Scout. Deacon did an amazing job planning, designing, constructing, and installing the new kiosk. The Land Trust thanks Deacon and Troop1 Seekonk!
Land Trust Holds Annual Meeting
Highlights of our annual meeting on April 9th included the Mary C. Wilson Community Conservation Award presentation to Seekonk resident James Viara; Guest speaker Erin Flynn, from the Public Archaeology Lab, speaking about local projects; and SLCT President Tom Webb, who summarized our activities and accomplishments during the past year.

Trail Workday at Cushing Conservation Area
Another successful workday at Cushing with the Seekonk Scouts! On September 22nd a crew of 10 scouts, parents, scout leaders, and a few volunteers from the community worked spreading wood chips along newly prepared trails. Thanks to all for your hard work and support!
Seekonk Library Nature Photo Contest Reception
The Seekonk Nature Photography Contest has ended and it’s time for judging! Go to the library to vote for your favorites! A celebratory reception open to the public will be held at the Seekonk Public Library, 410 Newman Avenue, on Wednesday, November 13th at 6:00 PM.
